There are lots of 'advisers' out there who will tell you that they offer individual wealth management, and if you’re going to achieve and maintain financial independence, it's a service you'll need to consider. But we've discovered that successful wealth management is always built on the firm foundation of your own Financial Plan. So if you're going to look for a firm of wealth management experts, what should you look for?
The first and most important thing is to find someone who has a process built around helping you to achieve your goals. Would you rather trust your wealth to an adviser who is more interested in having a relationship with your money, or one who takes lots of time to get to know you?
This matters, because truly successful wealth management means working with you to do the things you need to do to achieve what's important to you, and not just go off with your money and send you a statement every time the moon goes blue.
Secondly, you need to look for a clear and principled process. You'd be amazed at how many financial advisers don't really understand how to invest successfully. But then again, maybe you wouldn't.
