The business that was to become Chesterton House started life as James Jervis, a name that Andy Jervis chose to represent his new business in January 1985. Trading from a first floor office on Frederick Street in Loughborough, Andy moved within a year to shop premises on Leicester Road in the town, transacting a mix of motor, domestic and commercial insurances as well as financial products and mortgages. In 1987 the Financial Services Act came into force and Andy recognised that a higher level of specialisation would be required, so he formed James Jervis Financial Services to run alongside the existing insurance business with a partner experienced in financial services work.

Growth continued, and in 1990 a chance conversation with a former colleague then running his own business led to the sale of the insurance business and the move to Chesterton House.

Growth continued in the new building, until in 1995 Andy’s partner decided he wanted to move on and left to run his own company, still operating in the town. At around that time Andy had started to get involved with the Institute of Financial Planning, which was promoting the idea of offering comprehensive planning services to clients delivered over a lifetime relationship, and the move was the catalyst for a complete re-working of the company’s processes and the creation of new service standards and methods that have been relentlessly refined over the years.

In 1996 Richard Urwin joined Chesterton House from a successful career with Nationwide Building Society.  Richard subsequently acquired a significant shareholding in the Company and has worked with Andy to build a highly professional team practising effective long term financial planning based on each clients’ personal Financial Road Map and individual goals.

Always at the leading edge of best professional practice, Chesterton House have developed a method of working and business philosophy and practice that are the envy of many of their professional colleagues, and as a result Andy is regularly asked to speak at Institute meetings and Conferences to explain the ‘secrets’ behind their success.

“The real secret,” Andy explains, “is that there are no secrets. We’re very open about the way we work, and we’re happy to help anyone who’s serious about using our processes to have a great life, whether they are a client, potential client or practising professional adviser. What we’ve created here is available to anyone. We’ve created our website with this as our underlying theme. We hope you enjoy learning about it.”
